A brief history - Pioneer of the existence of the Institute of Medical Sciences is based on the role of Doctor Java. On May 8, 1913, the Medical School in Surabaya was named the Netherlandsch Indische Artsen School (NIAS). Then in 1920, the institution "Dokter Djawa School" was reorganized into Shool Tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen (STOVIA). Officially, in 1928, the School Tot Opleiding van Iindische Tandartsen (STOVIT) was established as a school for dentistry. In 1945, the Japanese occupation ended, and the Indonesian government took over and changed its name to the Indonesian Medical College. After going through several phases of change, it was inaugurated under the name Airlangga University in 1954.
